What is Building Biology?

A biologist? A biologist for a building? A builder? Building Biology is as yet a little known field but your need for the services of a Building Biologist may be greater than you realise.

Ever wondered if that smart meter or meter box on the other side of the wall of your bed is affecting your sleep? Is your mobile phone always on you, even nearby when you sleep? Maybe those high voltage transmission power lines are looking rather close. Perhaps that damp musty odour in the bathroom won`t go away. Or perhaps you`ve had some water damage in the home and thought nothing of it. All the dust in your home is making you sneeze all the time and your skin is always dry and itchy after a long hot shower. Or your pet is allowed inside the home. Maybe those chemical cleaning products you are using are giving you a headache? And it just doesn’t feel right to be using all those pesticides and herbicides but you feel you don`t have another option. Could your cookware be on the healthier side?

It can be overwhelming. But looking after our health is not just about the next pill, it is also about looking at where you live, the products you use on a daily basis and how you live. This is where a Building Biologist comes in. A Building Biologist can guide you in identifying any hazards in the home which you had never thought of which may be affecting your health.

We live in a time where we cannot be complacent - we need to take a very proactive approach to our health. Just because a certain device, product or building material is in our home does not make it healthy. Certainly functional, but perhaps far from healthy.

A Building Biologist will undertake a comprehensive environmental exposure history, conduct an internal and external site inspection of your house and if required, use technical equipment to assess your exposure levels be it to electromagnetic fields, air pollutants or mould. Depending on testing conducted, laboratory results may be analysed and if required, strategies will be provided to mitigate exposure to the identified toxin/s.

Give the services of a Building Biologist a try. A home that is healthy will go a long way in supporting the health of its occupants.
